Most of the propane outdoor heaters look like street lamps with a the mushroom on top. The great advantage of these heaters is that they are portable and very flexible. These units are much smaller and less expensive, but are perfect for a group of people sitting around the patio table or an intimate conversation space. A typical size for these heaters is a base of 12 to 15 inches square on each side of the base,  and a height of approximately 36". They are perfect for outdoor entertaining and generally run up to approximately 10,000 BTUs. A heater of this size will raise the temperature within its output range 12 to 25°.

The tabletop models use standard 1 pound propane cylinders and feature auto shut off and tilt valve. These models are extremely lightweight and portable. The model I just described retails for around $150 not including the propane bottle.
